Living a life with low self-worth can have disastrous consequences on the choices we make: Susie Mackie knows this only too well.  Her work with Women of Spirit supporting and enabling women towards self-empowerment, has become her life’s purpose.

Storytelling is one of the many things that define and bind our humanity.  The Women of Spirit books and website provide a vehicle for women to share their journeys to self-empowerment.

Each individual story acts as a guide, giving readers an insight into the resources used by the women in extremely difficult and often painful situations. These women inspire and encourage the reader to strive towards living happy and fulfilled lives.

Its not just a book – Women of Spirit is a Movement!

Self-love advocate Susie Mackie launches life affirming broadcast.

As we look forward to celebrating International Women’s Day, this year’s theme of #ChoosetoChallenge could not be more apt for Cheltenham’s Susie Mackie.

The sixty-something author, photographer and self-love advocate is preparing to launch her new broadcast ‘Our Spirited Life!’, where on a weekly basis she will interview women over 50 who are gloriously living out their latter years. Each week, Susie will talk to women who have triumphed over adversity and have discovered the fire in their souls to live their absolute best life. Every episode will be packed with inspiring, enlightening, humorous and sometimes irreverent conversation around the real-life issues affecting women over 50.

Among the line-up of inspirational guests is British novelist Dinah Jefferies and actress and performance coach Julia Goodman. A special bonus episode between seasons will feature, for example, The Royal Butler ‘The King of Etiquette’ Grant Harrold.

Susie says: ‘I was inspired to create these broadcasts to challenge society’s perceptions that vitality is only for the young and that youth and beauty are synonymous, to break patriarchal and ageist boundaries, to see ‘age’ as potential and inspire women over 50 to truly live throughout their glorious ‘third act’.’

Susie has been ‘choosing to challenge’ age-related discrimination in women since she herself gained a first-class honours degree in photography aged 50. Only in 2019, it was reported that gender disparity in the photography industry remains nothing short of astounding: 80% of photography graduates are women – yet

Women make up only 15% of professional photographers.[www.1854photography.com]

Buoyed by her new beginning, Susie has gone on to become a well-respected photographer and has authored two anthologies ‘Women of Spirit: Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Lives’ as well as speaking on a regular basis about ‘body confidence.’ Not only has Susie enjoyed enormous fulfilment in the past few years both personally and professionally, but in 2019 she was a finalist in Woman & Home magazine’s ‘Amazing Women over 50’ awards, subsequently becoming one of Hotter’s Inspirational Women. The well-known British footwear brand is a champion of encouraging women to embrace life’s limitless possibilities, which is why Susie was such a perfect fit as a brand ambassador.

‘Our Spirited Life!’ will launch on Mothering Sunday in honour of Susie’s own mother, Jill Grayston, who in her early fifties began a new career as Editor of the NAFAS magazine ‘The Flower Arranger’, and who is the Patron of Season One. The broadcasts are in both audio and video formats and can be accessed on all podcast streaming platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Stitcher and YouTube.

So, I think we can safely say, this International Women’s Day, that Susie Mackie is definitely #ChoosingtoChallenge and is flying the fabulous flag for all females over 50 by encouraging them to celebrate the gift that is their ‘third act’.
