A guide to dealing with the media will be the next step for a new women’s support organisation, which was launched, to widespread acclaim.

LadiesFirst attracted 100 Coventry and Warwickshire businesswomen to their inaugural event.

Now the organisation, created by lifelong friends Lisa Kennedy and Julie Richardson, will be giving delegates an insight into how to manage relations with the media.

LadiesFirst, sponsored by Coventry, Leamington and Nuneaton law firm Alsters Kelley, was launched last week when Vanessa Vallely was the principal speaker.

She is the author of a successful new book Heels of Steel, and chief executive and founder of wearethecity.com (WATC), a vehicle to help other women connect and grow both professionally and personally.

The second LadiesFirst event, on Wednesday, February 26, is headlined Can You Hack with the Media? It takes place at Kenilworth Golf Club and will feature a half-day workshop by former Birmingham Evening Mail editor Steve Dyson.

Steve, now a renowned media commentator, will demonstrate how a business can get the best out of the media through effective public relations.

Lisa Kennedy said: “Media relations are so important for business today and Steve Dyson’s presentation will provide our members with tremendous insight into how to get their business noticed in the media.”

Julie Richardson added: “Our second event is really a perfect follow up to Vanessa’s presentation, which did so much to show women how to raise the profile of their businesses.

“We received so many comments that LadiesFirst was filling a huge gap in business support for women in business, including so many practical tips.”

Comments following Vanessa’s presentation included:

‘I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for yesterday.  Your presentation was extremely uplifting and I left feeling inspired and raring to go!  I have lots on the agenda for 2014 it¹s going to be a good year for me and I¹m feeling both excited and energised.’

‘I just wanted to thank you again for today. I was like you years ago, a tad worried about having to burn my bra but actually it was the best event I have been to in a long time!’

‘I shall read your book tonight after I start my business plan for setting up on my own!’

Other comments included:

‘I really enjoyed Vanessa’s talk – lots of food for thought as well as positive (and practical!) ideas which can be put to use in my career. All the ladies I met were really lovely and it was certainly the best women’s only event I’ve been to. The next one is in my diary.’
